Chapter 4: The Ghost in the Machine

"I belong to absolutely no one."
Elena’s voice shook, but the venom in it was sharp and real. She shoved Adrien’s hand away from her face, pressing herself flat against the chilled leather of the car door. "I am not property. Not to my father, not to Vittorio, and certainly not to you."
Adrien didn’t retaliate. He simply sat back, adjusting his cuffs with unnerving calm, though the lethal edge in his gaze remained fully intact. "An admirable sentiment. Daniel expertly navigated a labyrinth of access roads before pulling into a disguised freight elevator hidden behind a dilapidated warehouse facade. As the car descended into the secret subterranean bunker of 'The Glasshouse', Elena's mind raced, calculating her rapidly dwindling options.
